Internet Video Conferencing Transmits Emotion! June 30, 2008

Posted in : Uncategorized , comments closed

Noting facial expressions and body language is not possible through phone usage or communication via instant text messenging. Negotiations between parties or visual learning (i.e. gazing over where an Online University teacher points on the blackboard) can be greatly facilitated through the use of internet video conferencing.

Video conferencing is just as the name implies: a way for business associates, teachers, and regular individuals alike to communicate visually.

Internet Conferencing And Voice over IP

Internet conferencing isn’t just restricted to electronic text communications and Voice over IP. Through internet video conferencing, face-to-face interaction can take place. The bare bone requirements for participating in this communication medium is two-fold: have access to a web camera & microphone and a video conferencing program that supports Windows or Mac.

A popular Internet video conferencing program is the CU-SeeME program, a gem developed by Cornell University and available as freeware. Remember, having the proper sound card and video card (comes standard on most computers) is important as well in order to send and receive messages. A microphone is usually sold separately – speaking at your computer speakers will not work.

With the advent of online universities becoming more available like dandelions after spring rains, individuals from different states and regions of the country are able to gather and establish visual contact with the professor – a definite plus.

Internet video conferencing is not only used for business and educational purposes – it is used for entertainment purposes as well. The now-defunct hearme.com was a site geared towards the average Joe where regular people set up their web cameras and played host to their own “video rooms.” Whether for business or for pleasure, video conferencing is a definite advantage in the cyber world.

Backyard Landscaping Ideas To Make A Difference In Your Home

Posted in : Gardening Hall , comments closed

A home backyard is a special place. It is close to your heart. It is a private place. Unlike a front yard of the house a backyard is free of any artificial and injected rules of design. What I mean is
it’s ok to do mistakes in a backyard. It’s your own playground.

You can experiment a lot in this place. If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person then you must have tried growing a few plants in this place and may be failed a few times. But that’s what it makes a
backyard so special.

The main function of a backyard is to “relax”. So while designing a garden in this areas never compromise on your emotions. Try various alternatives of design, layout, flowerbeds, shrubs, etc. while
designing a garden. Always remember that a garden does not always means planting a few plants by boundary and laying out expensive lawn.

There is much more to landscaping than just planting plants. So while designing garden look inside yourself as a person before. the bottom line to success of any space whether interior or exterior is “comfort” of you and your family members.

Why do homes have a backyard? According to my perception it is just provision for you and the family to enjoy the together moments when you don’t want to move in the outskirts of the city by traveling
a distance. It is a miniature model of the countryside woods you would otherwise visit, when you are on vacation.

So plan accordingly by keeping this in mind. If the backyard is a small space you will have to give a lot of attention to detailing while the execution of the garden. Detailing such as planned spaces, pathways,
exterior lighting.

One good idea is to create an island of flowerbeds to attract butterflies, so that it remains a focal attraction and your guests and friends will never forget it. In case of a large backyard small private spaces can be arranged that can be used to create a campfire or a place surrounded by shrubs overlooking the outside surroundings. Such private spaces can be used to do paintings or a place for the kids to play hide and seek. Pathways with width of approx. 3 to 5 feet can be used for circulation and your kids can also use them as bicycle tracks.

These pathways can be easily enhanced using artificial external lighting during night time. A small fishpond with a fountain can create some good and cool atmosphere. Of course what you have read here are not the only possibilities in designing. Actually possibilities are endless, but I have just given
you a few starting points that you can go ahead and expand using your own imagination. Just remember what I said earlier always keep YOU in the focus while designing and it will be a great place to relax with your family.

Laptop Demand Is Astronomical June 26, 2008

Posted in : Technology Management , comments closed

Step aside Desktop PC, it’s the age of the laptop, or at least that what the massive demand points to. So massive demand but minute supply according to what manufacturers are expecting. Many have forcasted laptop computers to be in demand but its amazing that theres been no give. The incredible thing is that even when you get the latest thing out it’ll sooner or later be out of date.

There seems to be a lot more variation and availability of gaming laptops these days. These laptops are also increasing in value because of the tough competition faced from value laptops. Gaming laptops are no longer jeered by serious game players because they are actually pretty good. More positives to come from evolved manufacturing processes is tiny, cooler parts that give way for thinner, pleasing designs. Ok so there remains a difference in speed no matter how advanced gaming laptops have become but that should always exist. I would not give it too long before we see ultra mobile gaming laptops on the market.

Even though the market share is controlled by manufacturers selling via retail channels I feel the direct channel and custom built laptops will always be here. With custom built laptops you commonly get to find what make of parts is going into the laptop. It just gives the buyer greater options at the end of the day. All the laptop computers found in highstreet stores are designed to grab the most market share and not the smaller niche markets. For the hardcore consumers, custom laptops close the gap. You can a large number of manufacturers who sell direct so there are a lot of alternatives too. Because of this consumers will allow the large brand name.

The latest mobile technology will be breathtaking. Minute internet laptops are the new product to get mass market desire. The Asus Eee just built a new specialist market. Consumers require laptops that are light as a feather yet additionally large enough to be workable and easy to use. If you use slightly less potent parts then I reckon this is extremely doable even today. Analysing the trends it looks like gaming laptops will become thinner and more powerful. Manufacturers are always striving to distinguish themselves in this saturated market so that keeps things improving.

The Gaming Laptops from Rizeon are pretty cool.

Preakness Betting Angles

Posted in : Lucky Web , comments closed

When it comes time to make your picks for the Preakness, you have a couple of choices. You can stare at the racing form until your eyes bleed and read the thousands of words that will be generated by experts in the next two weeks, or you can just be lazy, have faith that history will continue to repeat itself, and rely on the betting angles that have performed well in past versions of the race. The second choice will be much simpler, and it will leave you way more time to relax and dream about how you are going to spend the fortune you make betting on the Preakness. Here are nine angles that I dug up using a spreadsheet and the mighty Internet. Some are easier to believe than others, but all of them are true and have been profitable over the years:

1) Bet the Derby winner to win the Preakness – Since 1979 the Derby winner has only missed the Preakness three times. In those 24 races, the Derby winner has won the Preakness 10 times. If you were to bet $20 to win on each Derby winner, you would have bet a total of $480, but you would have collected $792. That’s a profit of $312, or a return on investment (ROI) of 65 percent. The Bet: Barbaro.

2) Bet the Derby exacta straight up – In the last 20 years the Preakness exacta has been the same as the Derby exacta four times. That means that you would win by betting the same exacta 20 percent of the time. Pretty easy to make a profit on that. In fact, the last time it happened – in 1999 when Charismatic bested Menifee twice in a row – the payout for the Preakness was $47.60, more than enough to make you profitable on all 20 bets. The other three wins are pure profit. The Bet: Barbaro over Bluegrass Cat (if the Cat comes back for the Preakness, that is).

3) Bet the Derby favorite to win the Preakness – Since 1980, the Derby favorite has run in the Preakness 14 times. It has been the winner on six occasions. If you had bet $20 to win each time you would have spent $280, but been returned $496. That’s a profit of $216 and a ROI of 77 percent. The Bet: Sweetnorthernsaint.

4) Use the Derby favorite in your exotics – Of the 14 times that the Derby favorite has run back in the Preakness since 1980, it has been the winner six times, been second three times and third three times. Only Harlan’s Holiday, which finished fourth, and Excellent Meeting which broke down, haven’t hit the board in the Preakness. That means that the Derby favorite has been part of the exacta nine out of 14 times, and part of the trifecta an amazing 12 out of 14 times. The Bet: Stick Sweetnorthernsaint in your exotics.

5) Love the one word names – Since Swale won the Derby in 1984 seven horses with one word names have won the Derby and gone on to race in the Preakness. Alysheba and Charismatic carried their space-free names right into the winner’s circle, and Ferdinand and Unbridled both finished second. Both a win bet and a place bet on each single-named Derby winner would have been profitable. The Bet: I don’t see any spaces in Barbaro, so a win and a place bet are called for.

6) Chestnuts have more fun – In the last ten years there have been 111 starters in the Preakness. Thirty four of them, or 30.6 percent, have been chestnuts. Chestnuts have won five of the last 10 editions of the Preakness. That’s 50 percent. In other words, chestnuts are performing disproportionately well. On the other hand, bays and dark brown horses have made up 59.5 percent of the field, but have only won four of the races, or 40 percent. Gray horses have performed about as expected – 11 percent of the runners and about 9 percent of the wins. The message is clear – look for the chestnuts. The Bet: Of the Derby runners headed to Pimlico, only Lawyer Ron is a chestnut.

7) Blame the President – Of the last 10 horses that have won the Derby and the Preakness, six of them managed the feat under a Republican President. That bodes well for Barbaro thanks to Mr. Bush. The Prez could prove to be bad news for Barbaro if he wins the Preakness, though. Of the 11 Triple Crown winners, nine of them won while a Democrat was in office. The Bet: Barbaro.

8) Jump on the undefeated Derby winner – The last three undefeated Derby winners – Majestic Prince, Seattle Slew and Smarty Jones – have all won the Preakness. A $20 bet on each would have made you a $34 profit, or a ROI of 170 percent. Barbaro hasn’t lost yet. He hasn’t even come close. The Bet: Barbaro.

9) Bet the favorite – If the rest of these angles seem too complicated, just wait until Preakness post time and bet on the favorite. That plan hasn’t failed in the last five years. $20 bets would add up to $100, but have returned a healthy profit of $220. The Bet: It would take a miracle for Barbaro not to be the favorite.

Choosing A Theme For Your Next Event June 25, 2008

Posted in : Misc , comments closed

One important aspect of event planning is choosing a theme for your party or gathering. Unless you are planning a wedding or a baby shower, the theme might not be obvious. The theme can be anything you choose, but it’s important to remember your guests’ comfort and therefore plan with that in mind. It’s wise to have a theme that all guests can easily adapt to. Having to go out and purchase a new outfit or rent an elaborate costume is a burden for some people, and attending an event should be something that people look forward to.

One theme that lasts year after year is of course, the birthday party. Birthday parties are a wonderful cause for celebration and they can be enjoyed by people of virtually any age. If you are planning a youngster’s birthday you might choose to have an additional theme. Two ideas are a sleep-over or a backwards party, where the children all put on their clothes backwards and the cake is served before dinner. In circumstances like this, event planning is fun for both the parents and the child. It’s wonderfully rewarding for the child to be involved in every aspect of the planning of their birthday celebration; unless of course, you opt for a surprise party. Planning a surprise birthday party gets to be a bit trickier but with a little help and a great deal of patience, it can be an enormous success.

A popular theme for parties is having the guests wear costumes. This can be fun for everyone involved and children especially enjoy it during the Halloween season. It gives them an opportunity to put on something fun and act differently for a day. Event planning for a Halloween or costume party is much the same as any other event. You need to first contact the guests and tell them that they’ll need to find a costume to wear. Then it’s time to choose a menu and decorations. Although the theme is a bit different than your average cocktail party, the event planning aspect is very much the same. It is attention to detail that is most important.

Other popular themes that people enjoy for gatherings are:

Hawaiian or a beach theme. All the guests dress up in swimsuits and straw hats and drink tropical drinks. This is especially enjoyable during the colder, winter months.

A 1950s or 1960s flashback party. You can request that the guests dress from the era you’ve chosen and with the music that was popular back in the day playing, it will really be a blast from the past!

It’s important when you are working on the event planning of any party, to choose a theme that people will enjoy and can be fit into any and all budgets. Once the party starts, don’t forget to join in the fun with your guests. Whether it’s a birthday party or a New Year’s Eve party if you plan accordingly, you can make it an event that will long be remembered.

Plan your next baby shower like a pro by picking up your baby shower kit. For more articles and information on event planning visit our site.

Dieting And Exercise To Lose Weight June 20, 2008

Posted in : School of Medicine , comments closed

Dieting and exercise done in tandem would help in losing weight quickly. Proper diet with all the nutrients and required calories would help in maintaining good health and along with exercise would help in losing weight.

Aerobic exercises like jogging, swimming, brisk walking etc assist weight loss. A proper diet is required while you exercise. Junk foods are not good, as you will be adding unnecessary calories in your diet. Diet rich in proteins and nutrients are required for a person who exercises. Fruits and vegetables should be taken in large quantities. Fat is also required for the body in small quantities, hence you should not ignore fats when you exercise. Though the quantity of fats consumed should be low.

Don’t ignore breakfast, as this would be a blunder; instead have a full breakfast and eat a small dinner. Apart from abiding to a particular diet pattern, it is also important to plan an exercise routine. Keep track of your weight and gradually increase your exercise duration. Make sure that you are strictly following the diet pattern you have chosen.

Once you start seeing the results of the weight loss program, then you would be motivated to follow the routine. Do not try to lose weight in quick time, as this could be harmful. Do not eat less and exercise more as this could lead to a catastrophe.

One of the easiest ways to bake salmon is to pan fry it briefly before putting it in the oven. Baked salmon receipes cooked this way are quick and easy. An easy baked salmon recipe just right for a mid week supper after work or as part of a dinner with friends. Try this baked salmon fillet recipe served with an unusual red wine sauce.

Pour the wine into a pan with the diced shallots. Bring to the boil and reduce until you have about 3 tablespoons.
Turn the heat down to low and whisk in the diced butter until it becomes emulsified with the red wine reduction, don’ let it boil. Season with salt to taste and take off the heat.

The sauce can be reheated gently when needed.

Do You Work from Home? Plan Your Next Home Purchase Accordingly June 18, 2008

Posted in : The World Of Real Estate , comments closed

The flexibility afforded by a “zero-commute” combined with the skyrocketing price of gasoline has strengthened the case for full time teleworking and telecommuting. According to an Environmental Protection Agency (2004) study:

“Americans spend an average of 46 hours per year stuck in traffic. Gridlock produces more than $63 billion in congestion costs per year”

The artist community has been well acquainted with the use of work/living spaces for years, but improvements in technology have made the benefits of teleworking and occasional telecommuting more attractive to general consumers. According to the key findings form the International Telework Association & Council (ITAC) Telework America (2000) study:

“”Home-based teleworkers also have larger homes, on average, than non-teleworkers; the difference amounting to about 500 square feet. The most popular place for an office in these larger homes is a spare bedroom, with the living room a distant second. The primary home telework activity is computer work (55% of total activities), followed by telephoning, reading, andaveraging 7% of the timeface to face meetings.”

As you purchase your next home, there are certain factors to consider if you need to set up a new home office:

Make sure that your high-tech needs can be met. Have a qualified electrician inspect the wiring of the house to see if the system can handle the extra power load that your home office requires. Older homes may need significant upgrades to handle the extra power, while newer homes are built with more energy-efficient systems to handle the additional power along with heating/air conditioning requirements. If you use cable, DSL or satellite internet access, check with your local service provider to see if access is available in your new neighborhood. Shop around for your telephone providerin some cases, business service bundles may be more cost effective than regular residential service.

Designate where your office space will be. Determine the amount of space you will need to accommodate your work style and space. In many cases a spare bedroom or living room space can be used, if a formal den option is not available. If your work requires heavy telephone usage or just heads-down concentration, you may want to consider utilizing a room with a door. Doors can be closed to reduce interruptions from other family and household noises.

Plan your office blueprint to include all required furniture, bookcases, computers, fax, and printers. Make sure to allow for filing and storage space for files and extra office supplies. Lighting is critical for computer or assembly work, so make sure to allow for direct sunlight along with any specific task lighting that may be necessary. Select flooring options that will allow you to work comfortably-you may wish to go with hardwood or laminate flooring to allow for your chair to move smoothly across the floor. Install enough phone lines to cover your home, business and fax machines needs.

Is the office easily accessible? If you will expect regular package deliveries, make sure that your designated office is easily accessible to the front door of the home. This is also necessary if you will need to meet clients or visitors in your office and would like to ensure a professional appearance for your business.

Find out about local business requirements. Some cities have zoning restrictions and guidelines for work/living spaces along with tax implications. Make sure to check with your local government to determine if special restrictions exist.

The Public Perception of Hearing Aids

Posted in : Health Info , comments closed

The simple fact about hearing aids is that many people would not be caught dead wearing one, no matter how deaf they become. In fact hearing aids are quite interesting in the sense that they remain shrouded in a negative stigma within our society. Other aids such as reading glasses have been able to emerge from their shameful past and take their place as high fashion items, but such is not the case with hearing aids. The result of this negativity toward hearing aids has traditionally meant that significant portions of hearing impaired people are not getting the relief that they need. The negativity surrounding hearing aids is resulting in hearing aid manufacturer not being able to realize the potential of their market, a problem that they are keen to address.

Hearing aid suppliers are currently embarking upon a campaign to destroy the stigma that hearing aids and devices currently have and build a new reputation of social acceptance. Much of this transformation is reliant on affiliating hearing aids with popular gizmos such as iPods and Buetooth cell phone accessories. Hearing aid manufacturer are hopeful that by association, they can make their product hip and in doing so coax a new generation of hearing impaired people to wear hearing aids. In essence, the problem of hearing loss is quite substantial, especially with aging populations in most developed countries, so the challenge to manufacturers is not to increase market share so much as it is to reinvigorate their products says http://www.1hearingaid.com .This has translated into a vastly different approach to hearing aid design from some companies.

Traditionally, the goal of hearing aid designers has been to make the item as small and inconspicuous as possible. The idea being to address the negativity of hearing aids by subtlety or by being undetectable. More recently, the decision has been to make the item technologically advance and thus sexier. Options such as remote controls, playback functions and cell phone interface are all being explored and soon you may even start seeing hearing aids on the shelves beside other popular audio entertainment equipment.
