So close, in fact, that there’s no doubt they’re mating. And you know it’s a good thing when there’s that much closeness going on.
But since you usually don’t see butterflies that often, how is it that now there’s two of them? And in the same place at the same time?
The answer is pheromones.
Pheromones are chemicals that butterflies and other insects release to communicate over long distances. In the case of butterflies, they can release a pheromone to announce they’re available for mating. Within a short period of time, another butterfly gets the pheromone message and suddenly, the two butterflies have hooked up. And all is good.
That’s what email marketing is like.
Merchants have products or services they provide to Customers. And sometimes it might seem like there’s not very many customers around, or the Merchants would simply like it if there were more customers in general.
So the Merchants decide to use email marketing. First the Merchants make it known they’re going to send out emails every so often announcing special sales and communicating bits of information they know their Customers will appreciate.

5. It goes without saying that for maximum response you should constantly test and refine your copy to determine which alternatives are most successful. Once you have a proven “control” advert or web page, you should continue testing in order to increase your responses even more.
6. Collect examples of successful copy. I have a folder on my computer where I save copies of adverts, headlines and even complete web pages. When I am writing a new advert or web page I skim through my file and it helps to get me thinking about writing my own copy.
7. Include testimonials in your copy, they can be very effective in overcome your prospects natural resistance. Always ask permission before using a testimonial and include as much concrete detail as possible to add weight to the testimonial
8. Informative, editorial style copy can be significantly more effective than copy that looks like an advertisement. Be creative and find ways of formatting your copy in a more editorial style.
9. KISS – Keep It Short & Simple. Don’t use long paragraphs and sentences; break your copy into smaller paragraphs and sentences and include only one main thought per sentence. Don’t ramble and don’t try to pad out your copy with unnecessary words.
10. This may seem like a contradiction to number nine. Always describe your product or service completely. People are prepared to read long sales letters, as long as they find them relevant and interesting. But nobody will want to read boring copy!

When developing a marketing strategy, considering various
techniques that have worked well for other people is certainly a
good thing to do.
However, your specific business, your target market and what you
are trying to accomplish through your marketing campaign will be
central to developing an effective marketing campaign for your
business.
Before you even consider sending out email marketing messages,
there are some tasks to be undertaken to make sure that your
marketing efforts aren’t wasted.
First of all, you absolutely have to know your target market and
its characteristics. This knowledge can be gained through market
research.
The demographics of your target audience, such as gender, age and
median income, will play a role in crafting your messages in a
manner that will appeal to the audience receiving them.
Learning the target audiences buying patterns can be helpful as
well. Are they impulse shoppers? Are they bargain shoppers or do
they value quality over price? Answering these questions will
help you to develop an appropriate copywriting strategy for your
marketing materials.
Another important factor in designing an email marketing campaign

website visitors.
When and only when they opt to receive such information, should
they be added to your opt-in list of subscribers who receive
email marketing messages from you.
Your messages should also contain an opt-out option where the
receivers of the message have the option to be removed from your
mailing list.
Otherwise, your messages may be considered to SPAM (unsolicited
email) which is not only annoying, but is also illegal now.
When you send SPAM, you also stand the risk of having your email
address or server blacklisted with internet service providers
which will effectively shut down the delivery of your email
messages.
When writing your email marketing messages there are some
important copywriting techniques that you can use to increase the
effectiveness of your campaign.
First, consider personalizing your messages by using the
recipients’ names and ensuring that the information they receive
is actually something they have indicated that they have an
interest in.
Be sure that your messages contain compelling benefits to the
reader along with a clear call to action that creates a sense of
urgency.
It is also important that the format of your email is able to be
read by all recipients. So, the format of the messages is
something to consider.
If you use plain text, it is a little more difficult to call
attention to specific portions of the message; however, most
anyone will be able to open and read the message if you send it
in plain text format.
If you use HTML format or even rich text, there will likely be
some recipients that are unable to open or read your email
messages.

Get Control of Your E-Mail, Before It Controls You December 24, 2008

of their time and they’ll tell you they are reading
and responding to e-mail. If you run an online business
you may receive hundreds of messages a day. It comes
with the territory and unfortunately, there’s no escaping
it. Keeping up with your e-mail is very important to your
success online and you should make every attempt to
answer any and all messages within 24 to 48 hours.
Here are some tips for streamlining the amount of time
you spend managing your inbox.
1) Folders: Set up folders to better organize your e-mail
and find things more readily when you need them. For
example, you may want to set up folders named after indiv-
uals you get frequent mail from, folders for ezines you
receive, software receipts, and others. When you need
something, you will know exactly where to find it.
2) Blocked Senders List: Face it, we all get Spam
and the more active you are online, the more of it
you’ll receive. Take it from me, I know. I get
hundreds daily on everything from growing certain
parts of my anatomy (including ones I don’t have),
to how I can become a millionaire overnight. An
easy way to rid yourself of Spam is to highlight
the message and add it to your email client’s blocked
sender’s list. Most all programs include this feature.
Once you add someone to this list you’ll never receive
another e-mail from that address again.
Another option to reduce the amount of Spam you

3) Message Rules: Make sure you set up message rules
or filters as they can automate some tasks and move
incoming messages to their appropriate folders. For

a prefabbed text document you have created in advance.
Also known as autoresponders, message rules make it
easy to automatically reply to messages, send messages
directly to the trash and more. This is a powerful
feature; study it and use it.
4) Empty Deleted/Sent Folders: Make sure you go into
your sent box and deleted message folders on a regular
basis and delete their contents. Messages can pile up
quickly and slow down your e-mail client substantially.
5) Software: Many software manufacturers make add on module
software for many of the popular e-mail clients like
Outlook and Outlook Express. If the program doesn’t
have a feature you need, you may find an inexpensive
package that will extend your e-mail client’s capabilities.

6) Do Something: Don’t allow messages to build up in your
inbox or before you know it you’ll be buried alive in
messages. As you go through your mail, try to act on
every piece of mail you receive immediately.Reply to

advice you’ll never end up with 500 sitting in your
inbox demanding your attention.
7) Print It: If you’re like me, you subscribe to a lot
of ezines. If you don’t have time to read them online
do what I do: print them out and take them on the road
with you. I read them while waiting for appointments or
when I’m on break or lunch at my night job.
Customize Layouts: Most e-mail clients allow you
to customize the toolbars and look of your program.
Add the features you use most often to the toolbars
and change the look of the layout to suit your needs.
9) Return Receipts: Have you ever sent a message and
wondered if the recipient ever received it? Send your
e-mail with a “return receipt” request and you’ll be
sent a notification by e-mail when they have read it.
The reader can stop this message from going out to you,
but nine out of ten don’t mind and allow the reply.
10) Message Priority: When you send an e-mail you
can set the priority of the message to “high,” which
puts a red marker or flag next to it when the recipient
receives it. This tells the reader that the message
is very important and may help motivate them to
reply sooner. Just don’t get in the habit of sending
every message this way or people will get annoyed.
