3 Big Fat Lies that Deserve to Die April 27, 2009

Big Fat Lie 1: Your personality is formed and unchangeable by age 5 or 6

Somehow we have accepted the idea that we are complete by age 5 or 6 because some “learned psychologist” said so.

Recent research reveals, however, that our neocortex, the front part of our brain that is responsible for reasoning and decision-making, is still developing well into late adolescence.

I can hear the parents of teens saying “Well, duh!”

If you pause to think about this notion, it really makes little sense, for at least two reasons:

1) It implies that people cannot change, and my 25 years of working with people makes me conclude just the opposite it true.

Although just about every phase of my work life involves talking with people, I am basically a shy person. In high school and college there was a guy in our church who was very friendly to everyone, and just about everywhere we went, he knew someone. Because I admired this, I watched and modeled some of his behavior because my shyness was something I very much wanted to change.

2) If you are 40 years old and everything was formed and complete by age 5, then this implies that you have wasted the last 35 years. I doubt that to be true

Big Fat Lie 2: Time heals all wounds.

We have all heard this one many times. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

The problem is that time does not heal all wounds.

The reality is this: all time does is pass.

It’s what we do while time is passing that makes the difference.

I’ve worked with people that have had huge tragedies in their lives, and because of the way they handled it, were doing fairly well relatively soon.

I’ve also worked with people who have had misfortune in their lives who talk about it as if it were last week when, in fact, it occurred 15 years ago.

They have kept it alive and recent for them.

It’s what we do while time passes that makes the difference.

Big Fat Lie 3: The first cut is the deepest

From Rod Stewart to Sheryl Crow, “the first cut is the deepest” has become an accepted myth about relationships.

The first breakup is supposed to be the worst and most difficult. “Isn’t this supposed to hurt more?” I’ve even had teens and adults say, as if there were doing something wrong with not being broken-hearted enough.

The reality is that the deepest cut, or most hurt, comes in the relationships where you have cared, loved and given the most.

The difficult task is to recover enough to, in the words of the song, “try to love again.”

It’s an important thing to accomplish, otherwise you give the other person way too much power over you.

Psychic Medium January 3, 2009

Posted in : New Age Philosophy , comments closed

Psychics are people who have mastered the art of using mental powers like ESP (extra sensory perception) to look into the lives and future of other people and predict future events. The word “Psychic” has Greek roots, derived from the word psychiokos or psyche, which means soul or “that which is mental”. The word is generally used to describe fortunetellers.

Many people have psychic abilities, or the abilities to look beyond the things that are seen or heard or sensed by normal human beings. People believe that this is possible by connecting with a higher power like spirits or souls of dead people. A psychic medium is one who tunes to this higher source for information and uses his or her intellect and intuition to analyze a particular situation or a problem. Psychic mediums act as an intermediary between a person in the real world and the soul of a person who has died.

Psychic mediums can connect with spirit guides, guardian angels, dead relatives of the client, and other supernatural beings. A good psychic medium should be able to interpret the sayings of all these beings and perform perfect analysis. Psychic mediums master the art of clairaudience, which is the ability to hear or perceive sounds, which are not normally audible. They are able to first sense the presence of a non-physical entity through spiritual communication, then convey this energy into the physical realm. This process is called mediumship.

There are thousands of psychic mediums in the world, some more active than others. Several are willing to offer their services for a fees ranges from $1 per minute to $10-$15 per minute. Psychic mediums can be contacted by mail, phone or through e-mail. There are also several websites that offer free psychic consultation online. However, these free services are limited. Psychic mediums are slowly finding acceptance by many people and there is a demand for popular psychics, despite the skepticism of some critics.

Psychics provides detailed information about psychics, psychic readings, psychic medium, psychic healing and more. Psychics is the sister site of Phone Psychics.

Spirituality: Beyond Meditation January 2, 2009

Many who seek to become enlightened or to have a spiritual experience resort to meditation as a vehicle.

Meditation is often used to still the mind and attain the deeper level of awareness that is obfuscated by the ever present flow of thoughts and feelings that are part of the so called ego.

To achieve significant states of spiritual enlightenment via this route however often takes intense practice and unwavering determination. These are barriers that many choose not to overcome.

The question is: “Is there a better, more effective way?”

Well some spiritual teachers might argue that the enlightenment is in the effort made to achieve it and hence the long-term practice is an essential component.

I however don’t accept that.

In fact it is my view that:

a) True enlightenment occurs when you attain enlightenment.

b) There is a more effective and quicker way to achieve it.

c) This path requires simply a desire for it and a desire to remain honest with one’s self through out.

d) The spiritual connection that many are seeking can be attained by “dismantling” and “releasing” what many call the ego or personality from the person’s energy field altogether.

e) Such a release is possible with a modality called the Mind Resonance Process(TM) (MRP).

f) The process is rapid, cumulative and powerful.

g) Enlightenment is experienced as a rapidly unfolding process accompanied with all of the following: feelings of lightness, radiance, buoyancy, inner peace, great confidence, great resilience, inner knowing, enhanced intuitive abilities, energy,
expansiveness, empowerment, connection to one’s own truth, love for self and others, a deep connection with the planet, other species and the universe and more.

Counting the Cost January 1, 2009

Posted in : New Age Philosophy , comments closed

“…He is the kind of man who is always thinking about the cost” (Proverbs 23:7).

This text deals with hospitality and how it is shared. This host apparently was very grudging with time and money and things. In fact, he couldn’t enjoy his company for thinking of his losses rather than the gains of companionship and the profit to mind and spirit that comes from fellow-shipping. He gives not for the sake of love and friendship; rather, from a seeming unworthy and base motive. This is known as mendacity or hypocrisy. Too, if we accept someone’s hospitality, knowing the person’s reason is insincere, then we partake of the same sin.

“It is more blessed to give than to receive,” we are told. Likewise, there is a graciousness in receiving, too. If it is right to give, then it is right to receive. Some good people are always giving, but balk when someone wants to do them a good deed. If there is a giver, then there must be a receiver. In fact, if we refuse to allow a friend to do something for us, then we are not granting our friend his or her opportunity to be a nurturer.

Jesus loved and lived to give, but there is a poignant moment when He accepted what He considered a great gift. “A woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table” (Matthew 26:7). Certain of the disciples counted the cost: “`Why this waste?’ they asked. This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor’” (v.26:8). But Jesus accepted her gift, and said to the critical and hypocritical zealots, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me …What she has done will also be told, in memory of her” (Vs.10,13). Jesus did not count the cost of this act of supreme love; He accepted the sacrifice it represented.

Cultivate a Positive Mind-Set Through Meditation December 30, 2008

Posted in : New Age Philosophy , comments closed

You have the ability to create your own mind-set. Whether your attitude is positive or negative, is up to you. The ability to change your environment, circle of friends, and attitude, is within your control.

Just like a computer absorbs raw data, so does your mind. Within your mind a culture, within itself, has grown. Many people feel like they have no control of their own mind, because this culture has become negative. The negativity is a result of past experiences, being in a negative environment, or being under the influence of unconstructive ideas.

Similar to a computer virus, you have to identify it quickly, to avoid letting it spread within your mind. You can also pass this virus of negative thinking to people around you. As a result you are spreading negative energy around, like “weeds in a field.”

Much like a farmer, you cultivate too. The energy in your mind is the crop, and it is up to you, whether it is weeds or wheat. If you have a farm and let a field take care of itself; you will be lucky to have any kind of a crop, from it.
This is the same with the energy within your mind.

You have to option to pick quality seeds: Information, in the form of books, eBooks, DVD’s, CD’s, lectures, courses, workshops, and seminars. This is learning, for the sake of self-improvement, and it results in a positive mind-set.

However, your work is not finished, because you must still reinforce the lessons, and keep everything in a focused order. This might be compared to fertilizing, watering, and “weeding the mind.” You have to work at it continually or the weeds will grow back. This, my friend, is meditation, and one of the reasons why we meditate, in the first place.

Meditation is controlled focus on an object, thought, or task without judgment.
This process makes it possible to look at all situations objectively. You can find solutions, turn negative situations into positive learning experiences, and create your own positive mindset. As a result of this you will make new friends, reach goals, handle problems easily, and develop an indomitable spirit.

Remember the last time you made an accomplishment. That feeling, and that ability, are within all of us. It is a formula for success, but you have to take action. Action is something that the vast majority of people will never take.
Learn to separate yourself from “the pack,” through education, meditation, and action.

Who Is Wallace Wattles and Why Is He One of My Mentors and Heroes? December 23, 2008

Posted in : New Age Philosophy , comments closed

Who is Wallace Wattles? Wallace D. Wattles died over 90 years ago so how can he be one of my mentors and heroes?

I had been studying the works of some of the most famous self-improvement ‘gurus’ of recent times and several of them mentioned the book ‘The Science Of Getting Rich’ as the starting point of their own success.

After doing some research on the internet, I came across a brilliant site where I could download a beautifully presented pdf version of the book for free.

I couldn’t believe how short and sweet the presentation of Mr Wattles message was. His work seems to have been the basis from which all the more famous and recent experts sprouted. He even preceeds Napoleon Hill and ‘Think and Grow Rich’!

Over the years I had been developing my own system for achieving my lifes goals by cherry picking ideas from the authors I had read. The conclusion I was slowly coming to had been reached and written down almost half a century before I was born!

In Wallace’s own words, “…if there is a particular book you need to read it will be placed in your hands at the right time.” How right he was.

How many light bulbs went off in my head? 5/5
