Intacto: a Film of Luck and Skill June 25, 2009

This dilemma takes center stage in Intacto, a 2002 film about individuals with a “gift” of luckiness. These individuals have extreme luckiness, both at the poker table and in every day life. For example, some of the gifted individual has have survived plane crashes or other life threatening situation and emerged unscathed. The test their luck in variety of ways, and finally decide that they are essentially untouchable. They decide that their luck will not run out in the near future.
It is not long before the lucky individuals turn their hand to online poker. As one would think by their prominent personality traits, the lucky people do extremely well. A key feature of the plot is the ability to transfer the luck. Of course, this brings question to mind about the interaction of luck and skill at poker. If luck can be transferred, it is not the skills of the player that actually matter. The question of luck is another issue all together, because some players adamantly do not believe that luck has a major role at the table. Intacto disagrees with this idea, and clearly states that luck is the main component of gambling success.
