Where to Get Cost Free Debt Advice July 30, 2008
Posted in : Economy + Finance , trackbackThe credit crunch has meant there are an almost epidemic quantity of debt management organisations now able to offer debt advice free of charge. Most organisations will offer cost free no obligation debt advice. What is not clear is whether these businesses are providing best value with reference to their service and the information they provide?
The fact is by far the majority of customers do not properly appreciate the different products in terms of debt management generally. If consumers had a proper understanding then these consumers would not require advice from debt managers.
The fact of the matter is financial companies are out to produce some financial benefit for themselves, it is possible this will end up with a conflict of interests between the consumer and the adviser. Income is generated by referring customers to other organisations or alternatively by collecting arrangement fees from companies to whom monies are owed. Because of this it is difficult to get a handle on how well such organisations are really representing their clients. The biggest worry is that these debt counselling organisations will tend to give guidance to clients influenced by their own margins as opposed to serving the best interests of their customers.
Getting un-biased debt advice can be stressful. Even so trying out more than one company is essential for such services. Consumers should not simply go with the first debt advice agency that they speak to.
Debt counselling organisations are regulated to try and make sure they are professional and manage client personal privacy. The issue with this is that it is very difficult to scrutinise or prove a given advisers motives when offering cost free debt advice. The question is, can a government agent ascertain if debt advice was offered with the best interests of the debtor at heart, or whether, perhaps, the kind of information given was was driven by the advisers own profit?
